Child’s Companion Learning Tool Illustrated Book

Packaged exclusively with the WellBeeTree Class-in-a-Pack © Art Kits, the book is included in the kit as part of an immersive Art Education tool. The book is one of the supporting tools providing commercial and graphic art in context, as while the Kit itself introduces the creative concept of story-boarding, a skill needed for many in-demand tech and creative jobs, that are slated to remain in demand over the next 20 to 25 years as AI grows to encompass other tasks.

The book series is called Tiny-Story-Time, as the materials also encourage everyday short reading moments, to be shared as a reward for completing the art-kit lessons, to build value in reading skills.

The existing brief for the Art-Kit creation was modified in Spring of 2020, to address the 4-7 year old age group of learners home with parents during this critical skill-building period, where immersion is a key element of shaping future abilities in all areas. Art Teachers that work also within the WellBeeTree consulting team, where also abruptly asked to deliver classes over technology in a way that was novel to them. Cohesion, physical materials, one-on-one step demonstration, as well as parents’ and core-curriculum teachers’ desire for support in extra-curricular areas such as art or music, which they understand as important for the wholistic school experience, beyond the typical home-based coloring books and games readily at hand, were considered as primary factors, in the development of the learning materials

I was set to task to design a print product to adapt a 50 minute in-class project session for at home/small pod or school settings, that is versatile and flexible for different learners and can be used by homeschoolers, parents, & school teachers.

I wrote the copy for the book and used digital vector illustration, in Adobe Illustrator for the covers and title pages, as well as hand painted watercolor traditional skills for the inside pages.

The purpose of the kit is reinforce critical child Occupational Therapy-based learning skills needed for kindergarten and first grade, such as pencil grip and printing skills through guided cutting and tracing.

I drew from previous experiences in Graphic Design designing materials for Child Education, Early Development and pediatric mental health sector roles, such as Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Textbook design & commercial art department, being on the team for Lt. Governor Barbara O’Brien’s progressive Pre-K through 21 Education Commission in Colorado, and the Boston University Center for Anxiety and Related Disorder’s Pediatric treatment center.

I designed the art kit product itself and the included materials in its subject matter and scope, to map to social media influencer and paid facebook ad campaigns that will scale quickly, according to easily identifiable audience characteristics to build results-oriented awareness campaigns that convert to quality, look-alike audience sets, enthusiastic social proof, Youtube watch times with the companion video, as well as a wide range of Youtube behind the scenes and story telling content, vlog posts, ‘mini-tutes’ and so on.
